The Ballon d’Or will be awarded in Paris on October 17th. Kylian Mbappe is just one of 30 nominees for the prestigious award. However, the Paris Saint-Germain striker has a clear favorite – and he plays for Real Madrid.

According to many experts, this year’s Ballon d’Or could go to Karim Benzema. The 34-year-old Frenchman not only won the Champions League and the Spanish championship with Real Madrid, but also recently secured the UEFA Super Cup (2-0 against Eintracht Frankfurt). He has already been named the best player of the past Champions League season by UEFA. Will his first Ballon d’Or follow?

Real is a Ballon d’Or machine
Kylian Mbappe told France Football: “He’s 34 years old, he’s just had the season of his life, he’s won another Champions League and he’s been crucial many times. If I were Karim and I didn’t win, I would stop thinking about the Ballon d’Or forever.” Do players generally find it easier to win the Ballon d’Or when playing for Real Madrid? “Real are a Ballon d’Or machine, you have to acknowledge that. There’s a real know-how, but the most important thing is on the pitch. It’s not your club that’s going to win the Ballon d’Or, it’s you. I always am I’m still convinced that one day I can win it in Paris,” admitted Mbappe, who dismissed Real Madrid in May and extended his contract at PSG until 2025
