Kroos admits: DFB resignation

Toni Kroos put an end to his national team career in the summer of 2021 after the European Championship. However, the decision was made long before that.

After 106 international matches in the jersey of the German national team, Toni Kroos was over. At the beginning of July 2021, the Real Madrid midfielder officially announced that he would no longer play for the DFB team. In a charity interview, the 2014 world champion confirmed that he had no regrets about the decision. Since then there has not been a moment “where I doubted the conscious decision to resign”.

“It was clear since 2018 that the European Championship will be my last tournament”
The idea matured in Kroos three years before his resignation. “I myself had intensive thoughts of retiring after the 2018 World Cup and had many discussions with Jogi Löw,” said the Real Madrid professional. He assured: “It has been clear since 2018 that the European Championship will be my last tournament.” A return is therefore no longer an issue for him.
