Barcelona continued their impressive start to the season with a convincing 4-1 comeback victory over Galatasaray in Istanbul, maintaining their perfect record across all competitions.
Anthony Gordon was among the standout performers, scoring his first Champions League goal for Barcelona on his first start in the competition. The result marked the club’s 10th consecutive victory of the season, further underlining the strength of Hansi Flick’s side.
However, the Spanish champions had to overcome a difficult opening before securing all three points. Galatasaray made an energetic start and took the lead through Aleksey Batrakov in the first half, putting Barcelona under considerable pressure. The Turkish hosts appeared to have doubled their advantage shortly before the break, but a lengthy VAR review ruled out the goal.
That decision proved to be a turning point. Barcelona responded with greater urgency, and just before half-time, João Cancelo brought the visitors level after the ball fell to him following a loss of possession by Lamine Yamal.
The equaliser gave Barcelona renewed confidence, and they returned for the second half determined to take control of the match.
Their turnaround was completed just five minutes after the restart when Fermín López found the net to put the visitors ahead. Barcelona began to dominate proceedings, and Gordon soon extended their advantage, capping an encouraging start to life in Catalonia with his first European goal for the club.
With Barcelona now firmly in control, Karim Adeyemi added further gloss to the scoreline in the 65th minute, firing a powerful effort across goal and into the bottom corner to make it 4-1.
Galatasaray struggled to respond as Barcelona comfortably managed the remainder of the contest, turning what had initially looked like a challenging away fixture into an emphatic victory.
The result sent Barcelona to the top of the Champions League league-phase table, with two wins from two matches and nine goals scored. Their outstanding form has also continued in LaLiga, where they have won all eight of their matches.
With 10 victories from 10 games in all competitions, Flick’s Barcelona are making a powerful statement early in the campaign. Their ability to recover from difficult situations, combined with the growing influence of players such as Gordon, López and Cancelo, will give the team plenty of confidence as they pursue success in Spain and Europe.
